Choirs

The church provides young singers with a unique musical education and gives adults of all abilities the opportunity to sing the finest works of the sacred choral repertoire within a liturgical context. Choirs at St Chad’s are close to the heart of David Leeke, Organist and Director of Music, having himself been a chorister here in the 1970’s. Please contact davidleeke@stchadschurchshrewsbury.com if you would be interested in joining one of the choirs.

Adult Choir

St Chad’s Adult Choir rehearses on Thursdays 7.15pm-8.30pm and sings each Sunday at one or more services. Members are volunteers from a wide variety of professional backgrounds. The emphasis is on achieving excellence within inclusive worship, and a high standard of sight-reading is required.

Girls' Choir

St Chad’s Girls Choir meets on Tuesdays at 4.05pm in term time. The girls sing Choral Evensong each Tuesday in term-time at 5.00pm. They also perform at other special events, including a recent concert of Bach’s St Matthew Passion with the Pheonix Singers. Encouragement and expert help is given to those seeking Choral Scholarships at universities.

Junior Choir

St Chad's Junior Choir meets on Thursdays at 6.30pm and sing for most Sunday 10am services. They also perform concerts, including an annual joint event with the children’s choir of St Oswald’s Church, Oswestry.

Darwin Voices

St Chad’s Chamber choir performs concerts throughout the year. The choir is named after Shrewsbury’s most famous son, the scientist and naturalist Charles Darwin, who was baptised in the church.

Concerts already planned for 2012 are on Saturday 7th January, Friday 6th April and Saturday 6th May. Please refer to our current Services, Music and Events brochure for further information.

Choir Parents' Association

The CPA is an enthusiastic and energetic group of chorister parents, adult members of the choir and general supporters who support the long-standing choral tradition of the parish.

Visiting Choirs

We welcome applications from suitably qualified choirs. There is a wealth to see and do in and around Shrewsbury, and although we are unable to offer accommodation, we are happy to give advice.

Colla Voce - Sunday 3rd June at 6.00pm
The More Singers - Sunday 19th August at 6.00pm
